Cultural- artistic society „Slavija"
was founded in September 2002. in Eastern Sarajevo, in spirit of universal cultural values, in order to garde cultural richness of Christian ortodox people, who lived in Sarajevo and it's surroundings.
CAS „Slavija" is a result of people's need for exsistance of this kind of cultural activity on this area where 35.000 people live. Few enthusiasts and folklor lovers registred the society and started to work.
The President of CAS is Vladimir Jovancic.
Dancing section is the most numerous and there are about 250 numbers divided in four groups by their ages. In it's coreographies,
CAS shows dances and songs of Serbian people from Sarajevo's surroundings and from the whole Bosnia, some dances from Serbia and of course dances of other nationalities in Bosnia.
At this moment we have 10 coreographies that are finished. Besides dancing section, in CAS „Slavija" there are musical and singing section that gathers about 50 members.
Members of our orchestra are mostly the studentds of Musical Academy and Musical high school in Eastern Sarajevo.
We are trying to keep original origin custums, to accomodate and stylise them, in an artistic way, by saving their roots,
styles and principal character and all that in order to make them closer to common people and prolong their lasting in future.
The thing we can be proud of is that our national costumes, used in coreographies, are original, collected from people who lived here in the past, some of them are old over 100 years and have historical values.
Till now, we presented our work when participating in noumerous festivals in our country and abroud. We've been in Bulgaria (Varna) and Macedonia (Ohrid), then in Montenegro (Budva) and Serbia (Belgrade).
For our work we got a lot of priseses and recognitions for our work and showed that art doesn't know any limits, in fact in makes young people come together.
